What Is a QR Code?

QR (Quick Response) codes are two-dimensional barcodes that can store URLs, text, contact information, WiFi credentials, and more. They were invented in 1994 by Denso Wave for tracking automotive parts and have since become ubiquitous in marketing, payments, and contactless information sharing.

FAQ

Do QR codes expire?

Static QR codes (like the ones generated here) never expire. They simply encode data — if the URL they point to remains active, the QR code will always work. Dynamic QR codes (managed by services) can be edited or disabled.

How much data can a QR code store?

A QR code can store up to 7,089 numeric characters or 4,296 alphanumeric characters. For URLs, this is more than enough for even very long links. Maximum storage depends on error correction level.
